Section 8 Program or the State Rental Assistance Program (RAP).  Waiting lists are open through July 2, 2007.

These two waiting lists are statewide lists. Anyone anywhere in the state can apply. These lists have been closed since the end of 2001 when about 35,000 pre-applications were received.  They will probably not be opened again for several years.   So, if you need  a rent subsidy --  apply now! DSS intends to use a lottery to select 7,000 households for placement on the state Section 8 waiting list and 5,000 households for placement on the RAP waiting list.

Who can apply?

Pre-applications will be accepted from elderly, disabled, single-member households and families.  You must be 18 years of age or older to apply, or be an emancipated minor. The programs offer rent subsidies to eligible families.  The same pre-application form will be used to apply for both programs.

How do I apply?

Fill out a pre-application and mail it before July 2, 2007.  The same pre-application form will be used to apply for both programs. You can get the application from:

Only pre-applications postmarked between Monday, June 18, and Monday, July 2, 2007 will be accepted. One pre-application form per family will be accepted. Only pre-applications that are complete and legible will be accepted. Applicants will be notified only if they are selected to be on a waiting list.
